Boris of the Yard....

...and why not put Boris in full charge of the Met as its first-ever elected Commissioner?

I see that Peter Black thinks this would be a disaster for the safety of Londoners and others.

I say rubbish.

As the elected Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis, under Conservative Party plans, Boris would be responsible for holding the police to account, for overviewing the budget and the appointment of senior operational officers. He won't be the one making operational decisions. I reality, his powers will be a more defined and tranparent version of his current role as Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority.

From the Damian Green incident and the way  Boris handled that, we can clearly see that his commitment to freedoms and liberties mark him out as an excellent firt-ever elected official in charge of scrutinising the Met Police.
