The news that Ali Hassan al-Majid has been executed following his third death sentence handed down after his latest trial.
al-Majid, more popularly known as "Chemical Ali" was partly responsible for the shocking death for ordering the gas attack on the Kurdish town of Halabja in 1988. It is believed that about 5,000 people died in the attack.
Whatever the crimes, no matter who the perpetrator, I cannot find it within me to support the death penalty.

Councillor Kinzett, I disagree with your "do-gooder" attitude. I support the death penalty. Why should we be paying to keep scum like the Ripper, Brady, Rose West, [at least Fred West hung himself and did everyone a favour]and all the other murderers, child killers, paedos and rapists nice and warm with three meals a day in prison whilst we have pensioners who cannot afford to feed themselves properly and who are afraid to put their heating on in winter because of the bills.
ReplyDeleteThe bible says "an eye for an eye" The scum should be either hanged or injected - they are of no use to society.
What a silly comment Anon! I don't understand the criticism of people for being "do-gooders", would we prefer our councillors to be "do baders"?
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....the Bible also says "love thy neighbour", outlaws murder, asks us to "do unto others..." and a whole host of other "do-gooder" behaviours. Ho, hum.
ReplyDeleteRidicule all you like, but until we introduce PUNISHMENTS that fit the CRIME innocent children will continue to be sexually and physically abused and murderers will continue killing, in most cases, innocent members of the public.
ReplyDeleteAny person who is prepared to take a life should also be prepared to suffer the consequences.
Re; Alwyn ap Huw.
My reference to "do-gooders" was not aimed at councillors - it was aimed at people who seek out sob stories as to why these monsters take perverted pleasure in abusing and killing innocent children and others. Come on get real do you know of any 'do-gooder' councillors - Swansea is re-nown for its "do-badders"
I think the best solution is to allow taxpayers the choice:
ReplyDeleteIf you would like to keep alive murderers and sickos then you pay for it with your taxes. If you do not wish to keep these degenerates alive then you may opt-out and keep your money.
See how long the softies hold on to their ideals when they have to pay for it.
The death penalty is no more than state-sanctioned murder. An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind, and killing a murderer is not as much a punishment as making them live for many years locked away to contemplate what they've done, having to live with it.
ReplyDeleteI've been relatively close to a high profile murder case in the past (look at my secondary school) and the longer the murderer stays locked up and alive, the better.
